Ready to Assist
Our advocates assist survivors of domestic abuse. Although we don’t provide legal advice, we offer guidance and answer general questions about the following civil legal matters:
- Custody (parental rights and responsibilities)
- Divorce
- Protection from Abuse Orders
- Protection from Harassment Orders
Our Community and Legal Advocates can accompany survivors to court to provide emotional support. We can also help negotiate final orders. If you have been referred to NHM because you have to complete a Certified Domestic Violence Intervention Program, please call our helpline for more information.
Legal Representation
New Hope Midcoast partners with Pine Tree Legal Assistance to represent survivors in cases involving Protection from Abuse Orders. When PTLA is not available, we make every effort to request legal representation from local attorneys and depending on availability of funding, we can sometimes offer assistance with legal fees. NHM also works with attorneys to identify opportunities for survivors to obtain legal representation for family matters such as divorce.
If you are considering a PFA order as part of your safety plan, or need information about other civil legal matters, please call our 24/7 Helpline to speak with an advocate. They can help get you started.
